Haven

Haven Desktop · macOS

Your files open when you are there.

Haven Desktop keeps your documents encrypted and closed. They open while you are sitting in front of the machine, and close again when you are not. No password to type, no password to leak.

Free for 30 days. No card, no account. Requires macOS 14 or later and a camera.

How it works

Enrol once

Haven measures your face and stores the measurement — a set of numbers, not a photograph — encrypted on this machine. Nothing is uploaded.

Work normally

Your protected files open while you are present. There is no unlock step and nothing to remember.

Walk away

When you leave, the screen closes over, protected folders lose read permission, and applications you have gated stop taking input. Coming back is enough to carry on.

See what happened

Every open, close and refusal is written to a hash-chained activity record, so an entry cannot be altered or removed without breaking the chain that follows it.

What Haven Desktop does not claim

Most security software is sold on what it stops. We would rather tell you what it does, and be straight about the rest.

Haven Desktop is presence-based access control, not anti-spoofing. Face recognition of this kind can be fooled by a photograph or a recording of the enrolled person. Haven asks for a movement response when it is unsure, which defeats a still image held to the camera, but it is a deterrent and not a defence against a determined attacker who has physical access to your machine and a good picture of you.

If you need anti-spoofing that stands up to deliberate attack, that is a different class of product and we will tell you so rather than sell you this one. What Haven Desktop is good at is the ordinary case: a shared office, a coworking desk, a hotel room, a family laptop — files that should not be readable by whoever sits down next.

Desktop and Vault

Two products. Haven Vault is free on the Mac App Store and deliberately simple. Haven Desktop is the full product and is distributed directly, because some of what it does is not possible inside the App Store sandbox.

Privacy, concretely

  • Your face measurement is stored encrypted on your machine and is never uploaded.
  • Haven Desktop does not create an account and does not require one.
  • Camera frames are processed in memory and discarded. The only images written to disk are the evidence photographs taken when access is refused — and those stay on your machine.
  • If you download the trial from this page, we hold the email address you gave us so we can tell you when the trial ends. Nothing else.
