Haven Vault · macOS · Free
A vault that opens when you are there.
Put a file in Haven Vault and it is encrypted on your Mac. It opens while your face is present and seals when you step away. No password, no account, nothing leaves the machine.
Free for up to 10 files. Requires macOS 14 or later and a camera.
What's inside
Presence, not passwords
Enrol your face once. The vault opens while you are in front of it and seals when you are not.
Per-file continuous checking
Mark a sensitive file and Haven keeps checking that you are still there for as long as it is open.
Folders and drag-and-drop
Organise the vault the way you organise a desktop. Sort by name, type or date added.
An activity record you can trust
Opens, closes and refusals are hash-chained, so removing or editing an entry breaks every entry after it.
Evidence of refused access
When someone who is not you tries to open the vault, Haven captures the attempt and keeps it with the record.
Nothing collected
No account, no sign-up, no analytics, no network calls. Your face measurement never leaves your Mac.
Being straight about the limits
A photograph of you can open the vault. Face recognition of this class matches a measurement, and a good photograph produces a similar measurement to a real face. Haven asks for a movement response, which a still image cannot give — but a printed photograph that is turned in front of the camera can sometimes satisfy it.
Haven Vault is built for the everyday case: a shared desk, a flatmate, a coworking space, a laptop left open in a café. It is not built to stop a determined attacker who has your machine and a picture of you, and we do not describe it as though it were.
The same honesty is in the app itself, in the About section, where you can read the whole thing before you trust it with anything.

Every new install gets 30 days with the file limit lifted. When that ends, the vault keeps working and stays at 10 files unless you upgrade. Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked away.
